Developing self-worth in young people through hands-on adventure!
Chesapeake Bay Sea Week
Live-aboard educational sailing adventures on
the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay!
5 day Potomac River middle school Sea Week program: During Sea Week trip you'll get hands-on experience learning to sail a 46 foot ketch. You will learn how to raise sails, tie knots behind your back, work with parallel rulers and dividers then chart a course, follow navigation markers through narrow channels, maintain and operate a 92 hp diesel engine, raise, lower, and set anchors, row a dinghy, operate an outboard and that's on the first day!
You will also help fix meals, help maintain the boat, go
swimming, explore a beach for fossilized
sharks teeth, go on a treasure hunt, learn to predict weather changes, and travel
to at least 4 different destinations. Most
of your trip will take place on the lower Potomac River
where it meets the Chesapeake Bay with a possible
side trip into the Bay if weather and
time allow.
7
day Chesapeake Bay high school Sea Week
program: You
will learn and do everything that's in our 5 day Discover trip and more!
Sail past Smith Point lighthouse on the Chesapeake Bay to uninhabited
Watt's Island. Dinghy ashore and observe the sights and sounds of this
wildlife refuge. Sleep under the stars at night as you learn to
indentify constellations. Then head the boat north or south
whichever way the wind blows, and spend the day ashore exploring the
seaport towns of Onancock, Crisfield, Oxford, or St. Michael's.
Exploration, fun, music, and laughter all go together during a Sea Week
adventure!
*These are sample itineraries. All travel
during any Sea Week program is subject to change due to
weather conditions and forecasts. The safety and comfort of both vessel
and crew are our primary
concern. Trips are customized to meet the needs and educational
interests of each group.
