Hike a trail, follow a compass, sleep under a star filled sky, and learn what trust and depending on each other is all about!  Push your limits, then push beyond them as you grow in your relationship with God while exploring and living in His creation!

             Details...

  • Where? Our backpacking and rock-climbing trips take place in the Jefferson National Forest in Virginia and the George Washington National Forest in West Virginia approximately 2 hours west of Washington DC. We will send you coordinates and directions and meet you there!

  • How many? Our trips are designed for six Pioneers and Patriots plus two Troop Leaders, but you can bring any combination of PiPa's and Leaders you would like! Keeping groups small allows for better learning and less impact on the environment

  • How long is the trip? Our trips range from single day to three weeks with 3-5 days being our average trip length.

  • How difficult will it be and can I do it?  Yes, you can do it! That said, you will be hiking rugged, rocky trails, at times crossing streams and cooking over open fires. In exchange, you will sleep beneath the stars, see an extraordinary panorama from the top of a mountain, laugh, renew, and share an incredible experience with your fellow adventurers!

  • What will I learn? A lot! You will learn how to pack a backpack for a multi-day adventure, choose and prepare a campsite, set up a tent, build a fire (maybe with wet wood and a single match!), read a topographical map, learn what to do if you become lost in the woods, and learn how to be comfortable in a wilderness setting. On our rock-climbing course you will learn proper climbing techniques, rope/anchor setups, how to belay a fellow climber, and how to self-rescue.

  • Purpose/Goals? To grow closer to God and others while experiencing life's adventures together!  Additionally, we hope the skills you learn with us enable you to make wilderness areas places you are comfortable in, knowledgeable about, feel safe in, and will continue to use for recreation, adventure, growth, and communion with God.

  • Costs? See below...

"To me it was more adventure, beauty, and fun experienced in 7 days, than in my whole 17 years!          I learned much more than how to read a compass, I learned about who and what I am. Thank you!!!” Ashley

"Believing God can help you meet any challenge." Jamie

"I hope I never forget the valuable lessons (not to mention the fun and excitement!), I learned on this trip. God bless you!"  Cheryl

"I will lift mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth."

Psalm 121:1-2
