"Get to Know Us" trips on the Chesapeake Bay!
Capt. Jeff and Liz
First Mate Jennifer
Thinking of scheduling one of our week-long sailing adventures in the Bahamas or Maine this year, but wonder what life aboard a sailboat is all about? You're in luck!
This fall, Different Drum Sailing Adventures, an Alliance of American Heritage Girls, is offering several, two-day, overnight Chesapeake Bay sailing trips to introduce Troop Leaders, AHG girls, and moms and dads, to our life-changing programs. Come and get a glimpse of what living aboard a sailboat is all about and have the chance to ask questions about our longer educational adventures! Father/
Contact us for additional summer trip options such as our five to seven-day Family Trips, PiPa trips, and longer Mother/daughter, Father/daughter/son trips.
On each two-day trip, you’ll meet Capt. Jeff and board the s/v Boundless at the Coan River Marina in Lottsburg, Virginia, a 2-hour drive south of Washington, DC. You’ll arrive at the marina at noon and after stowing your gear aboard, you’ll be given a brief introduction to Boundless, go over safety requirements, and learn what to expect during our two-day adventure together! We’ll grill out for lunch on the marina grounds before getting underway for St. Mary’s Maryland.
It’s about a 4-6-hour sail (we’ll motor if there’s no wind), across the lower Potomac River from Virginia to Maryland. There, we’ll anchor for the night in Horseshoe Bend across from St. Mary’s College and the historic St. Mary’s City. After a swim off the boat and a shower, we’ll prepare dinner and eat on board Boundless, watching the stars as they come out for the night. In the evening there’ll be board games and movies for entertainment or sometimes, there are live concerts on shore we’ll attend!
After a big, leisurely breakfast in the morning, we’ll have a brief group discussion, like the ones we start our days with on our longer, seven-day trips. We always begin with a scripture, a quote of the day, and a knowledge element such as learning about how our solar panels help recharge our battery bank on Boundless.
Afterwards, we’ll step into the inflatable and dinghy ashore to Historic St. Mary’s City, the first Maryland settlement from the 1600’s. There we’ll be greeted by presenters in period costume and explore the grounds, including an extended tour of The Dove, a 17th century replica ship used for coastal trading during those times.
After touring St. Mary’s City, we’ll return to Boundless to set sail for our starting point, the Coan River Marina and the completion of our sailing adventure!
The cost for each two-day adventure is $175 per person (six people max) and includes all meals (2 lunches, dinner and breakfast), boat fuel/dinghy fuel and dockage, and admission to St. Mary’s Historic City.
We’d love to have you on board Boundless this summer so, come take the wheel, raise the sails, and join Capt. Jeff for a two day “Get to Know Us” adventure!
